If you were to ask me what is the number one budget-friendly way to update any space in your home, I will tell you over and over again — paint! The power of color is amazing! It can take a dull and sad space and turn it into bright and luminous. And guess what — these kitchen and bathroom cabinets are no different!
You have cabinets that have “still intact” but are simply not the color you want. They are structurally healthy, but maybe the tone of the wood is too dark or too light, or it is already a color, but you are not happy with it? Guess what? You can paint them, yes …
It can cost thousands to become a professional. But you can do it yourself — only for the cost of paints and supplies! You can have a brand-new look in your kitchen or bathroom and stay economical.
Select the section in which you will be working and remove all the drawers and doors for this section. I counted the drawers and doors as I removed them with a small piece of colored tape and put the same number on a piece of tape in the area they came from — this makes it easier to place them from their original origin — without guessing.
Once the drawers and doors are out of the box, you will need to remove all the hardware. If you plan to reuse the same material, it’s a good time to clean them up. I put mine in the sink and spray with kitchen degreaser and let it sit for about 10 minutes and then soak it in a dish with a little hot water and mild detergent. You can rub with an extra toothbrush to get into the cracks, then rinse and then let it dry on paper towels.
